Mr. K's real identity revealed!

Postby mr rom on Fri Nov 30, 2001 11:32 am

This was posted on the RetroGames Cps2 board by Mr. K himself... And to think that i thought it was Raz all the time!:

"Fine.

Lately, a lot of people have been trying to make educated guesses about my identity.
More precisely, it has been suggested that I am CrashTest, one of CPS2Shock members.
As far as I've seen, the arguments so far are :

a) CrashTest is part of the CPS2Shock team, and the Kawaks guy clearly has links to CPS2Shock
considering he updates Kawaks as soon as releases happen.
b) More recently, it has been said the word "Kawaks" comes from a sketch from the french humorist
Pierre Palmade.
c) CrashTest's role in the "decryption" of CPS2 roms has also been mentionned

Now, the "answers" to these clues

a) That's true. CrashTest is part of CPS2Shock, that's never been denied, and I work
in close cooperation to CPS2Shock, and more precisely Razoola.
Over the months we've been working a lot on various issues, both about CPS2 and NeoGeo hardware.
That still doesn't mean I'm CrashTest, but I'll admit that's a clue in his direction...
b) That's also true. Kawaks does come from the "Scrabble" sketch from Pierre Palmade.
I'm indeed living in a country where French is the official language, and when Kawaks was created,
I was listening to that sketch, and I found the word funny, and fitting for an emu name
(Some name their emu Callus or Bleem, so why not Kawaks ?)
c) True again. CrashTest was the "PC" programmer in the CPS2 decryption adventure.
He took care of the PC side of the transfer software, since Razoola frankly doesn't "speak"
one word of PC programmation (C or 8086 ASM...)

So, indeed, what was pointed out makes sense, that's for sure.

But I'm NOT CrashTest.

Actually, I'm a really surprised my *true* identity wasn't exposed.

I tried to hid it, partially to "protect" me a bit, since the Dayvee incident, among others.
Emulation history has been paved with attacks to emu devs and I wanted to try and avoid that for me a bit.

But I also have a player temperament, so, I purposely gave a few selected clues in the past.
The word "Kawaks" is one.
(About that, you may want to have a look at the french language's author's name and try and think a little)
Those who daily "see" me on IRC get some regularly, and more than once, I've been queried by the ones
who know, asking me if I was going crazy

Anyway.

I know that those freelance detective among you, and these who, for various reasons, try and harm
CPS2Shock will just say I'm lying, I'm CrashTest, I'm just trying to protect me somehow.

I know some people only believe what they want to believe, especially if it "helps" them
achieving their goals.

I've known CrashTest for years, from the NeoRage (not even NeoRage X) era, and I've been talking to
Raz just about daily for nearly a year, now, and they are people I know and esteem, and I
don't want my little secret to cause them any harm.

So here we are.
I'm not CrashTest, I'm not Razoola, I'm not Dayvee, I'm not Sardu, I'm not the pope.
I'm "just" MHz, a guy that has been playing emus for years, been waiting for CPS2 emulation to become
a reality, and who thought he could finally do something useful.

Disappointed aren't you?"

So it was MHz all the time. I think i've seen him before on IRC somewhere.
