So I just get back from my vacation and what do I get...

I get a call from a store manager who leaves a message and informs me I need to call him because, "There are some changes going on and I want to talk to you about how those changes will affect you."

It's not good when you get a call from a manager of a different store. Well my suspicions were right. My company announced that it will be closing 19 stores and mine was one of them, so now I have no job [img]images/smiles/icon_sad.gif[/img]

I saw this comming a while ago so I'm not to surprised but the part that pisses me off is that they knew they were going to close some stores (upper management) but they needed to wait till the new year so they wouldn't have to pay us as much money in unemployment. Meaning for the year 2000 I made twice as much money as I did in 2001 and by waiting they screwed me out of alot of money.

Needless to say I'm pissed!

Can anyone guess what crappy company I work for? I'll give you a hint;

Their company logo is a cow and the company itself smells like one.

Ouch, sorry to hear that buddy. I have to admit, I'm part of the problem. I don't trust computer made by cows. [img]images/smiles/icon_razz.gif[/img]

Well this is a bad year for computer makers. I got fired when Egghead went outta business and forced our company to "downsize" last year too. Good luck finding a new job!

Yeah Gateway closed all their operations in the UK a few months back, but hardest hit would be southern Ireland as the PCs were built there, plus their massive support centre.

My PC is a Gateway, and so is my sister's laptop. So I guess there goes all that free tech support [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img].

dell is fine. matter of fact, there are some of their pc's that are in such demand, thy are sold out at the moment. well, a former friend of mine is screwed now. he has an old gateway. [img]images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img]

Gateway isn't going under, they reported profits (probably from cutting so many jobs)

the cut a bunch of stores to remain in profits

too bad this place's damn server went out, I had a great deal about Gateway and how they could've avoided all of this (the network is busy?? what the hell ever)

technology is taking a beating in the stock market since there is no wlittle interest in it..plus more factors alomg with it but its the same ho-hum.

I am but that's not going to add up to much considering most of the money I made was from commissions and spiff and I will only be getting hourly (insert middle finger here) which only equals $9.50.

And as far as your question Homer J., Gateway and Dell offer very similar products of equal quality. But the area that dell beats us in is the business sector, they have some really great products where as our "business" line is nothing but overpriced crap (we can't even try to compete with them when it comes to servers and high end work stations). But the one area that we had going for us was the consumer side and a big selling point was the fact that we had a store location for extra customer support. Now that we are closing down stores agian it really doesn't instill much confidence the consumer. Infact before the store was closed I would get people asking about how long this store would be around and whether or not I'm worried about losing my job. At the time I said, "I'm not worried about losing my job and Gateway has been around for a while". Famous last words huh.
