New main page design (again)

make alternate, NONFLASH/java links to your pages

I turned off most of my shit, and now I have to link right in here to actually get here, as your buttons no longer show up for me, and therefore become unusable

Ok, I'm not sure about the animation but I'll look into it.

PD I might make another poll sometime about the buttons as just about everyone has Flash enabled. Why not just turn flash back on? Not all that many sites use it, and if I got rid of those ones I have no clue what I would replace them with.

Anyway, does anyone have anything to say about the actual design and not the buttons? If anyone has any better colour ides they can easily ripthe code, change it and then up it somewhere to show me.

you can leave the flash, but why not add actual LINKS, just regular old html links?

I don't have flash enabled anymore because I've found many sites that rely solely on flash, and that hardly any of those sites are worth my time, and usually they try to attack me with all sorts of crap I don't want to deal with

I'm not pointing a finger here, but that's why things are as they are

sadly, up until recently I came in thru your main page, and I barely notice a change....

Ok, yeah I could do that. In fac a nice little DHTML box somewhere would be neat and efficient. I got DHTML Menu builder the other day and havn't really been bothered to learn how to use it. Anyone else used this?

Why cant you click the animated buttons until they have loaded? Can that be changed?

Afraid not. All of the data has to load so that the buttons know what the link is.

Decided to put a bit more though into it this time, and it feels a little less gothic as well (but the main pane is still good 'ol black). The links are on the main page, and please vote when you have the chance.

Ok PD I have met you sort of half way. I have completely redesigned the news output so that it has a link to the board on every news entry. I just picked that blueish colour out of my head really so if anyone has any comments, as usual just say so.

The poll is currently deadlocked with 2 votes for both new designs..well I guess not really deadlocked since I accidently clicked on the first option while trying to view the poll. The other vote was by my other half so that brings the total up to two votes so far [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] Get on yurr bikes!

I take it you used flash to make those buttons right? Is there not an option to speed up the animation or maybe slightly reduce the amount of frames each one has?

No, although I have Flash I really couldn't be bothered to learn how to use it soI used a nice little proggie called Swish which has Flash incorporated. Yeah I can reduce the number of frames but it might make the animation look funny. I will tinker around with it and see if I can get a decent reduction without a serious loss in quiality.

I've only got a 56k and they don't take that long to load for me, or are you talking about reduction as to speed it up?

Ok, bizarrely reducing the frames makes no difference to either the image size or speed.

Can you not alter the total time of the animation? If its a 4 second cycle can you not reduce it to 2 seconds for example?
