They can change their name, but they will still ge infogrames.

They could never live up to Atari, not by a mile.

I agree completely. Changing their name won't make me buy their games if they suck. I don't know much about their games, I do have Looney Tunes Space Race for DC, though Image

Yeah I got that one, and Wacky Races too which is another of their titles.

The only reason they are taking on that name is to stand out from the crowd a bit more not to pretend to be the original Atari nor live up to their name. (although they'd like to) I think its a pretty good strategic business decision which will fool more people out there than not. We'll just have to wait and see what happens I suppose.

I don't have much in the good way of memories of atari, so I dunno why they'd change to THAT name? maybe they think they can draw in the fifty year olds that didn't get into it back in the day??

Inforgrammes (SP like I give a shit) are the largest publishing house in France I believe. They published games such as the Alone in The Dark series, and like EIDOS another large (shit too) publisher they haven't got a clue how to make decent games themselves.

Oh come on how can you call the Alone in the dark games crap??? I remember playing those when they came out on my mates 486 and they kicked arse. Dunno about the new one but the trailor looks pretty bad boy. You can really call Tomb Raider crap either, that was pretty good when it came out but did lose its appeal after the second game though, I stopped half way through TR3 due to boredom. I'm not too clued up on too many of their other titles so I do seem to have based my argument on a small number of titles therefor opening myself up to serious flaming. Oh well, I think Infograms have made a pretty good move.

I love the Alone In The Dark series as well! I was talking about the publishers not the people that actually designed the games. Tomb Radier wasn't made by EIDOS either it was made by Core Design and back then they were independant of EIDOS anyway.

Duhh sorry I stand corrected. Yeah fuck em who cares.

I still think it will drum up more business for them though even if it doesnt buy people in the know over there are enough others out there.

Atari is a known name and to be honest, Infograms isnt.

My point was (even though I didn't make one) is that Infogrammes (SP? agian who cares) is in a completely different business to Atari. Atari were primarily hardware wizards, they actually (as many people believe) started the video games industry.

They are nowhere near worthy of the name. Atari is a legend. They can't make games, but they can make hardware and virtually made this industry.

Yes but they arnt trying to duplicate what Atari did are they? They are only taking on the name and although none of us here will fall for the cheap trick there are enough people out there that will.

Imagine somebody pretty clueless looking in a shop for a game to buy the kids. They see a title by these Infograms people and then notice a game with a logo they know on it, Atari 'Hey I recognise that, it must be alright!' Thats the general idea and I reckon it'll work. Doesnt make the company any better at what they do but thats not really the issue here.
