Christmas

Postby Zep on Wed Sep 28, 2005 9:09 am

Damn it I wish it was Christmas. I got studies t do, I just quit my shitty telesales job which means I have to find another job and I have to learn songs for three different bands one of which is so professional if I screw up it's my name dirtied in the industry.

If it was Christmas everything would be fine.
God gave me everything I want!

I don't care much for Christmas, but like you I want the days off. Too many studies to be done, too much working...

Christmas is coming the geese are getting fat!
Please do put a penny in poor Zep's hat
If you havent got a penny, a round quid will do
If you havent got a quid mate, then fuck you!

I like christmas, right now Im enjoying my work for a change. The money isnt good but Im working in the Accommodation & Services team in the home office so every day is different. I applied for a job as an IT stock controller sort of thing yesterday though, we'll see if anything comes of that. It will be like working with stationery but all of it will be IT stuff. Sending it out, receiving new stuff yadda yadda, could be ok and a foot in the door of an IT company.

So Zep what do you play again? Guitar? Do you sing too?
I should send you a couple of my tunes and see if you can whack some lyrics over the top for a laugh :D

Arg I dont know if I could cope with a call centre job or telesales. That would finish me off I think.

Were are you working in an IT helpdesk type place or are you doing the calls? What we call Cold Calling where you try and sell shit over the phone to people that dont want it?

I could cope with IT Helpdesk pretty easily but not if I were making the calls.

best experience is to actually go on the floor than spending 2 weeks training..

Trouble shooting on any PC sucks arse!!

My PC is fucked and I cant work out whats wrong.

Either the mobo is fucked or the gfx card is fucked or the whole lot isnt getting enough power from the PSU.

Tonight Im gonna disconnect the DVD from the PSU and try a game to see if it frees up any power. If I return any part of the PC it will cost me £10 if its not faulty so I need to work out what bit isnt working.

Problem is, I dont know anybody that has a similar gfx card I can use to test mine out with to see if its a card problem.

jesus haze, isnt that computer NEW and now its fucked up?..god damn

whats happening to ur computer/..put in soem details so we can troubleshoot it.

1.buy a better powersupply for ur comp.costs about 50 bucks here..
2.got a faulty videocard..you have to explain to us why u think its the card
3.if ur comp has an onboard videocard..try that instead.disable ur gfx card..if its ok..then the gfx is the prob
4-motherboard-well,lets hope its not..
5-email the place you got it.theres no warranty?they really shouldnt charge u anything cause its still realitively new.

again, like i said..you have to tell us what errors ist showing onscreen.i know for a fact some videocards are..bastards..

Ok heres an overview of the problem.

I dont think its a problem with the motherboard or the RAM. I was worried it was the mobo at first because when I installed the nForce 6.66 drivers my PC would crash after 3 minutes of desktop time. Turns out this is just an issue with the mobo that affects loads of people and just not installing the LAN drivers from that installation stops it from happening. Im using the generic XP drivers and its ok.

Now, the CPU is fine becuase my intensive music packages dont affect it at all. It churns out those sounds without breaking a sweat. I can copy and download large files over the network or internet and they dont corrupt so the RAM is fine.

The issue is within games. Now, grab your mouse and move it left and right on the screen, speed it up a bit and notice the trails it leaves behind it? Even when mousetrails are disabled you can still see more than one cursor on the screen at a time when you move it fast. Imagine that happening to everything in a game?

Now its not as bad as that but you cant read signs and things properly in games unless you stop moving. Even slow movements do it like the game is blurring or something. It doesnt seem to be a frame rate issue because in HL2 I have a FPS readout at the top of the screen and it does it regardless of whether its doing 71fps or 41fps.
Say you were to look at a lamp post in the game, stand still and move the mouse, you would see an image of the post either side of the original but sort of flickering like the post was vibrating or something. Stop the mouse and it all goes back to normal.

Thats the best description of the problem I can come up with. Nobody seems to have seen this before. I posted on the 3dGPU forum and got 31views and no replies.

Now I thought the gfx card might be underpowered but I cant find any descriptions of the effects of underpowering a card on the net. The PCIe slot is using 3.33w in my system monitor which Ive heard is normal. It doesnt change when I disconnect the DVD player to save a few watts.

Ive flashed and updated my BIOS, updated my gfx card drivers to the latest versions and even tried some beta ones just in case. My mobo drivers are up to date too.

Im stumped but I dont want to send the card back to Overclockers only to have them tell me theres nothing wrong with it and send it back and charge me for it.
I cant test the card because I dont know anybody that has a PCIe mobo and my mobo doesnt have an AGP slot so I cant test it with a different card.

Thing is, the PC was and still is advertised as having an XFX 6800GT and mine came with a Winfast 6800GT. Now I know the hardware is the same but I paid for the XFX and wanted the XFX.

Sounds like a graphics card problem to me. It may very well be that your card is faulty! This sometimes can happen and HAS happened to me!

that "mouse" arrow you mentioned..it may be the kind of flat monitor you have.I have noticed while i was in staples that alot of monitors(those flat expensive kind) when moving your mouse around, it has a fading effect(a shadow fade out effect).

Dont believe its your card its doing it.

could be the model of the monitor too but i believe its just the conditions of having a flat monitor... :o

I dont have a flat monitor. I have a Dell M990 and games I used to play on the Athlon2k with a GeforceFX never used to do that.

I only used the mouse thing as a description of the problem since the mouse cursor does that on all machines.
