Anyone have Return to Castle Wolfenstein yet?

Postby adidas on Mon Dec 10, 2001 4:57 pm

I got the ISO yesterday and it seems that I have a somewhat common problem when attempting to run the game. The screen flickers a lot only to give up and say 'cannot load OpenGL subsystem'

I went to Activision's tech support page for this problem, but nothing they say to do helped. It's not as if the game shouldn't be able to run on a Geforce 2.

I guess I'll be waiting for a patch

Damn that dual boot system sounds better everyday, I bet the bastard would run on 98SE

Sorry Zep, I didn't download it, a friend of mine did

I really wish there was a way for me to fix this problem, I want to play the game.

It ran fine on my friend's Geforce2 MX400. Yet it has problems with mine

You can get it (and many other gamez/appz) from the warez kiddies on IRC.

connect to

/server irc.prison.net

and goto

/join #imp-iso

BTW - you'll need to use mIRC (hey, you'd be surprised how many people don't know that and try to do it from explorer...)

Best thing is it'll come at whatever the full speed of your connection is (most of the time)

just watch the XDCC lists and type in the appropriate command ( i.e. /msg IMP-DCC01 xdcc send #1)

try it... it really isn't that hard and is definitely worth it!

Problem solved. I stopped being stubborn and updated my video driver.

TLK: Don't you get aggravated by the queues on IRC?

...nope

actually, most of those XDCC bots won't have queues... they have something like 100 slots each!

I think you'll like what you find!

First you'll need to set up mIRC though so you'll be able to retrieve the files (these files will be coming off of bots, not your usual f serves)

Make these changes to your mIRC setup

go to DCC options
select auto get file
select Resume
select Auto-accept
then go to folders and make it disabled

enjoy

Zep: is that the Crocodile Hunter (aka Steve Irwin) in your avatar? ... I've always wondered, but only now did I just ask!

Wolfenstein,i just got the game today, nice enemy AI,i like how they retreat when injured.Im amazed that it runs on a bog standard voodoo2! I guess thats only because there arnt that many sprites on screen at once.

Sprites??

Surely a game as modern as that cant still be using sprites?? I thought they were only used for trees and bushes and stuff now.

Only real world alternative to polygons in a 3D environment are epsiloids (definite SP) which were experimented with, in about two games which were never released they were so promising.
