controller help

Postby geesehoward on Sat Apr 20, 2002 4:52 am

for some strange reason, my computer just suddenly stop recognizing my sidewinder control pad. whenever i try to use it, it keeps saying "Not Connected" even though the green light is on.

i just upgraded to the newest version of DirectX, tbut i'm not sure if that really has anything to do with it.

can anyone give me some possible reasons why this might happen?

My Sidewinder would do this everytime I pressed 'mode'

Why did I press mode? because the damn DOS ZSNES wouldn't recognize the SW pad if you didn't

A restart would always fix it

I suppose you've tried a restart? How about re-installing your controller?

update: now it's getting more weird

now when i go to "Gaming Options" it says the connection status is ok, but nothing will still recognize it, and the profiler is saying it's not connected. it worked a little while ago for some reason but now, nothing

i think it might be some kind of system issue, cause last time i disabled gator, and it suddenly started working, but now that trick isn't working

The exact same thing happened to mine and I have yet to find a fix. I didn't upgrade anything but it just stopped working.

Microsoft pads in general suck ass for most games anyway, I only had one for the "ease" of installation. Can anyone recommend a good pad (especially for fighting games) that doesn't cost $200+?

The only gamepad I use is the gravis gamepad pro USB. It's the same shape as a PSx controller so it has a familiar feel to it but the best thing about it is that I have never had to install a driver for it ever and it works with everything. Some people don't like it but whatever.

You don't like the M$ pad? I love 'em

I wish I could hook them up to my consoles.

Kind of makes me wonder how for the PC Microsoft can make such a fundamentally good controller, but royally screw up the xbox pad.

The one thing I don't like about the MS pad is the d-pad, I can't stand it. That and the fact that MS periphials never seem to be compatible with anything.

I guess you're connection joystick through your sound card's game port right? I found that some sound cards have trouble with the joystick (my MontengoII has that problem too). Odd thing is, if I connect 2 sidewinders to it both will work. If you have another one plug both in and see if it'll work.

This PC has two gameports that are probably conflicting, so I had to get the USB one. Really do miss my old pad.

I still havent seen a single joypad for the PC that has a decent d-pad on it. Whats wrong with a cross or buttons similar to the PSX pads. WHy to they always opt for a circle of plastic or something similar that makes games like SF that much harder??
