yEnc help

Postby adidas on Mon Apr 15, 2002 12:57 am

How in the hell do you decode yEnc files? I downloaded a yEnc file for the first time and I'm a little lost.

I tried a couple stand-alone decoders, and they didn't seem to do anything at all. I *thought* NewsPro had built in support, but I guess not.

I was able to open the file in WinRAR (after attempting to use the decoders,) and when I tried to extract it gave me the 'unknown method' error. Damn it.

If at all possible I'd like to stick with NewsPro as my newsreader.

you could also try using the EXTERNAL decoders they talk about for outlook express users...

or, perhaps, they were using a newer version of yEnc such that your integrated decoder isn't advanced enough to handle them

or they were corrupted, like you suggested...

Ahh, so NewsPro does have integrated yEnc support (there's a list on that site with the newsreaders with built-in support.) I just tried a tiny little yEncoded file and it was fine. Maybe the posts I was messing around with yesterday were just plain ol' corrupted files.

Ha, good point.

I am 99% sure the files I had were corrupted, because I haven't had any problems with yEnc since. NewsPro seems to handle them fine on its own. Thanks for the help though
