Converting Movies/Shows to DVD format?

Postby mr rom on Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:10 am

Could anyone give me a nice tutorial or link to a program or two that can convert your average AVIs/MPGs to DVD format, so I could burn them on a DVDR and watch them on my DVD player?

Any help is appreciated. :P

Theres lots of software out there and some is better than others. I got one recently and when I tried to convert a 700mb avi into an mpeg it took about 20 hours and the final mpeg was 1.3gig and in some weird format my DVD player didnt recognise.

Your best bet is probably to Google for the best converters out there and then hit the torrent networks and grab the best one.

Nice, what is it?

I was looking at Windows Media Centre Edition in a shop the other day, looked quite interesting and helpful for DVDs and movies and that....

Its made by a company called Yamada. I got it from Maplins on a special offer but I believe they have a newer model in now.
I mainly got it for that and because it has surroud sound outputs actually on the back of the machine already rather than needing a surround amp. I thought that was good.

It saves so much hassle because I can just whack an avi or whatever onto a disc and play it straight off the list. Its getting left behind a bit now though, it has trouble with some of new avi files although its actual name has DVX in it because it was originally designed to play DivX avi files.

I prefer to convert to dvd or MPEG1 though because it plays those like a dream.

Yeah I havent heard much about Media Centre really. I thought that was more aimed at people that built dedicated micro media PCs. I wouldnt mind one of those eventually. A little cube hooked up to the telly would be nice. Wouldnt have to fart about with discs for films anymore.

I have a really good program I forgot the name (haven't used it for a while). But it converts basically ANY format to DVD format (after which you can burn on Nero). It is straight forward and hassle free. When I get home I'll tell you the name.

Also, http://www.videohelp.com is a good site
