WinXP SP2 cripples p2p

Postby release on Mon Aug 09, 2004 1:27 am

SP2 Reduces the number of concurrent TCP/IP connections allowed per program/port to 10. This can cause the donkey (and other p2p) to "choke".

See here for a potential fix (unverified) :

Cheers,

Release.

The supposed reason for the connection limit is to reduce the risk of orchestrated attacks and to reduce the spreading of worms like Sasser.

I think I can buy into it

While I can understand the reasoning, it should be a setting that power-users can modify without having to hack system files (as is currently the case).
Cheers,

Release.

I have never used BT, how does it compare to the bots easily found in IRC ?(the source for almost everything I get ;) )

I love Bit Torrent. I get tons of albums, games etc. I manage to get 100kBps with a fair amount of consistency, and occasionally max out at 300+

If you ask me, IRC doesn't compare :)

I don't know, I get 100 kBps all the time and like I said, sometimes over 300. Just make sure your firewall is set up right. If you torrent has enough seeders you should get some pretty good speeds.

in other words,ur firewall should be OFF..my guess is depends on the pvp computer ur download in from and the no of downloads ur tryin to get

i can understand ur gettin 100kps TOTAL files altogether but not 1 file. :?

And no, don't turn your firewall off. Just open up the ports you need for BT. I have Azureus set to use 22702, so I have port 22702 open on my router.

Attempting the same thing, but on the BitTorrent client "ABC"... I set the port range to 6881-6882, hopefully that will work; once I get another torrent downloaded I'm going to try your BitTorrent client, Adidas. Hopefully it's better than ABC; ABC is lacking in the feature area. basically it's "get torrent and download it" :P

haha

My uploads don't stay there, unless I'm lazy. It's an upload account I give to everyone to use. Once things are uploaded, I move them to the folders they belong in. (usually that folder is empty)
