hard drive question

Postby Zep on Wed Feb 04, 2004 5:10 pm

i just re-installed windows me on my old computer getting rid of winxp pro (cause the new one is still in the damn post).

i had my 30GB HD split into 20GB and 10GB partitions. i reformated C:\ (20GB) but winme seems to have lost D:\ (10GB). it thinks that D:\ is a CD drive. cause i don't want to throw this fucking piece of shit computer out the window just yet, i thought i'd ask you kind fellows if you had any ideas on where the 10GB partition has got to. and i already checked under the keyboard.
God gave me everything I want!

1) Windows ME = Satan. If your machine dosent have enough poke in it to handle XP, then 98SE is where to go.

2) Did you go anywhere near FDISK when you was installing ME? If not, then its not likely that you accidently destroyed the partition and its probably still there.

3) Is it the second partition actually showing up as a CD drive, or has the OS allocated D: to the CD drive itself because it's not seeing the partition?

4) Was the second partition formated to NTFS? If yes, then Windows ME can't see it because 9x is FAT/FAT32 native and can't read NTFS drives. The stuff will still be on there, you'll just have to attatch the drive to a NT/2000/XP machine to get at it.

1)i couldn't get hold of a copy of 98, ME is a bit of a bitch when it comes to blue screen of death and that i know.

2)yes, i did fuck about with fdisk but BEFORE installing ME. can't remember exactly what i did with it but i did screw around my c drive with it.

3) d:\ has become my CDRW drive (it used to be e:\) and my normal CD drive has become e:\ (it used to be f:\)

not sure if that answer your question....

4) Yes, i converted it to NTFS cause i thought it would make xp run faster (hahaha). oh well, there wasn't much on therw apart from lots of white stripes videos and porn.

Theres your answer then.

Getting the stuff off with your new machine wont be any hassle, undoing the screws requires more effort then drive management does thesedays.
