Rare PC Engine Game Emulation Experience

Postby Damian on Sat Feb 09, 2002 8:16 am

Ok, I got the latest edition of EDGE magazine today, and while flicking through the verbalise I came across a retro/collectors article detailing various systems and their games considering as a key factor mainly market value.

One game that certainly caught my attention was Darius Alpha, which was valued for that single cart at an astronomical price of £600. As no other game neither inherently classic not celebrated met this grade I thought to ask a few of you to download, and try this game out. See what you think, fat goose, or slander gander.

It's up on my ftp under misc. I don't know what required to run the emu so you will have to try it out for yourself. I'm guessing it's a side view shooter similar to the snes series one.

On a side note;

I'm sure I downloaded every PCE game I could get my hands on.

I have about 900 or so. I'll see if I can find it in my collection.

Mine too. I downloaded every rom Shane has I think.

Over 900 of them anyway.

I have 2 different Darius Alpha games and they both do nothing but give me a black screen.

I downloaded the whole set of TG16 from Sabin a while back, and checked it with good tools. It checks out fine but my Darius Alpha ROM(s) doesn't do anything but show a black screen

Um, the evil one? I'm using the latest Magic Engine. If you have any better suggestions for a Windows-based emu, then shoot.

I have XP and can't use DOS emus since there's no damn sound

yep, you're using the evil one

I'm sorry your excuse is also sucky...

XP blows
get a good OS for emulation and keep the crud OS in your office at work (and make it dual boot the good one so you can play at work!)

I really can't think of anything much 9X has going for it. I mean who wants lock ups, slower application boot times, memory leaks, overall lower standards of dependability, all for the sake of a 17+ year old program environment that can now easily be emulated? (Virtual PC, VDMSound)

Ok so I've burned a PC engine cd (dracula) and I want to play it to see if it actually works. However I don't know what I need to play cd games.

I have the magic engine emulator (I don't know what version) what else do I need and where do I put it?

I'll have a gander at that later, i'm curious to see what a £600 console game plays like. I'll check out the PCE/TG16 version of Parasol Stars while i'm at it since thats meant to be closest to what the mythical arcade version was aledgedly meant to be like.

Windows 9x is out the window for me as well, aside from one dual-booter for some older games. XP is a bit of a pain in the arse sometimes, but its the most stable OS that Microsoft have made since DOS 6.2 and it is fairly reasonable to use once you change all the display and folder settings to make it behave properly.

On a totally unrelated topic, anyone wanting to depress themselves with the thought of having buying a new computer can find the Model 2B ROMs for Nebula in the uploads section (Virtual-On, Last Bronx, Indy 500, GT 24, Virtua Striker, Sonic Championship and some baseball game).

Why did you burn a PC Engine CD? I thought all the games came on cards and could be loaded in an emu as a rom.

Anyway did anybody ever get down to trying that game or are you all just talk like me?

Woops I almost forgot about this.

I finally got it to work, I just needed that card which I thought I had already (it might have been name dependent).
Anyways I finally got it to work and it ran quite well.
I wasted about 3 cd's on it and it turned out that the first cd I bunt was in the right format but the emu wasn't working so I didn't know that. Oh well thanks for the help!!

elderly topics...

Postby Pdaimaoh on Mon Jan 06, 2003 7:36 am

wow, what a jump, from the beginning of the year suddenly brought back from death at the end of the year

turbo games came on cards, but there was a CD device like the SegaCD for it, and in japan they came out with a card for the card game slot that would upgrade the abilities of the CD peripheral, then in america and possibly elsewhere (japan, too duh) they made the TurboDUO, which had the CD part built in, and also had the system card two built in, so it could play all the old CD rom games and some of the new ones, then they made a third system card for arcade style games and a few other games, you could import it from japan and it would work on the turboduo and the turbografix+CDrom thing

the system one card was just the normal first edition cdrom device...

anyway, boo to you people saying win9x has no place ON AN EMULATION related forum
I don't extol the virtues of win9x for being a wonderful operating system, I praise it for being the only OS that is sure to run ANY given emulator

kiss my butt, nerds, XP is good so you can brag that your system has enough ram to handle it and still run other stuff

Actually I prefer win2k;)

And I haven't found an emulator that I can't run on win2k.
