Sometimes Even Console Emulation Can be Deceptive

Big N have caught on about GBA roms

Nintendo will persue this, I'm guessing. Remember about 1 year or maybe 2 years ago, they were threatening lawsuits to a lot of sites, ordering them to remove their SNES roms and emulators?

I haven't seen them go after SNES for a while now, but I'm almost positive that they will go after GBA roms and emulators.

I'm very curious to see the Castlevania on GBA, but I haven't downloaded it or the emulator.

What should happen to make sure that this doesn't affect the rest of emulation is that sites with any scruples should boycott GBA emulators and roms, at least for a little while. If and when the GBA establishes itself and Nintendo doesn't feel threatened, lift the ban.

The only point that I can agree with on the Nintendo quote from above is:

"since they can only be played on a PC do not bring the uniqueness that GBA as a handheld console can bring"

I can't agree that long term emulation is bad (I think we've discussed the morality of emulation before)

Hehehe, I run GBA Mecca: WARNING SITE PLUG: http://gbamecca.cjb.net

And I must say, I won't spew any BS about how I'll stand up to Nintendo. When they threaten me with a lawsuit, I will drop the site faster than a pack of dogs can jump on a 3 legged cat.

But I don't think it will come to that. Long ago, I had Genesis ROM site. Before I could get hit with a legal action threat, I was far too tired of having free webspace accounts deleted and stuff. I quit.

Edited to fix spelling mistake!

Oh dear, just read that Nintendo have caught on about GBA emulation and made some press statements. Here it is -

"These downloadable games are illegal and, in the long run, are not very good for the industry. These copies are immitations and since they can only be played on a PC do not bring the uniqueness that GBA as a handheld console can bring"

"The only purpose of Nintendo video game emulators is to play illegally copied games from the internet. Such emulators have the potential to significantly damage a worldwide entertainment software industry"

Notice that last paragraph is just raw bullshit for the most part (aside from N64 and GBA).

As far as I am concerned, anyone carrying GBA ROMs is just asking to have the ass sued but this could very well spill over into the rest of emulation. I just hoping this aint gonna trigger another big Nintendo/IDSA attack.

"Luckily the Gamecube is the start of the end of piracy for
Nintendo products of the future"

"The optical disc can in no way be copied except by the people
who know how, as long as this information doesn't reach the streets
of Asia we are safe, and trust me it won't" (Don gives me a
reassuring wink)

If that story is for real, then there is a way to copy them. That's a no-no, because the warez kiddies will figure it out sooner or later (probably later)

Arnt there gonna be 2 different game cubes?

One made by the big N and one by Matshushita. The latter of the two being able to read all manner of different discs. Now, surely if a GC game can be squeezed onto a CD then somebody can find a way to play it?

That's what I thought.

Like I said *if* it's real. I think what tipped me off was the first quote.

I just luv fooling you guys hehehe. Yeah I put in the swearing so it would be just too obvious.

I should have made it a bit longer, but Don was beginning to sound a bit long in the tooth. I'm amazed where they originally got the story from though, I thought they only put stories about UFO on that particular one

Oh yeah only joking about the fooling part, heh that wouldn't fool Retrogames.
