Sometimes Even Console Emulation Can be Deceptive

I must admit, Amiga emulation still confuses me

I got some requests for Amiga at my site yesterday, and it got me wondering as to how in the hell you use the files in these zips.

here's the structure of one of the zips I found:

-------------------------
{dir}Robocop2 Install
| |
| |
| Install
| Install.nfo
| readme
| RoboCop2.Imager
| RoboCop2.inf
| RoboCop2.Slave
|
Robocop2 Install.nfo
----------------------------

I know what read me and the .nfo files are, but what about the rest?

Do you have to start your emulator and then "install" the game on your 'virtual Amiga'? I've noticed that the files that have the sort of structure like the one above are much smaller, I'm wondering if it's even the whole game.

I don't know how you you guys use those Amiga emulators, it really confuses the shit out of me.

Ignore all of the crap except the .adf file. I had Robocop 2 and it was on floppy and did not require a hard drive as an install would suggest.

Sometimes roms come with that crap but it is just so you can find out more technical info about it, just a pile of crap ignore it.

There's no ADF file in that particular zip, so it doesn't load in an emulator? I wonder what the purpose of this site is then: Amiga Games Just documentation?

most groups who dump games tend to put out 2/3 different text files.all u need is .adf amiga disk images and a kickstart(most of the time)

Yeah thats right. Maybe you dont have a proper download Adidas. Most of the time you click on your virtual floppy drive in your Amiga emu and browse to the .adf file and off you go. Its strange that this zip doesnt contain the right file. Maybe you could try another site.

By the way Adidas, did you ever manage to locate Megatron and Sneech for the Amiga? I looked the other day but all the amiga game sites I know have either been taken off line or the links are all dead.

If you haven't already try Fellow for DOS, which is what I use. Or as you have a faster machine you could try the Windows version. I find that WinUAE is generally harder to use and slower than Fellow. It really should work fine as long as you have the right kickstart ROM. Maybe you would like me to send you mine?

I used the windows version of Fellow, and I was using kickstart 1.2, I think. Maybe I should try a different kickstart rom?

Jim Power and Base Jumpers are up right now.

And I finally got an Amiga emu to run, but then I couldn't get the game to run. I got as far as the desktop. I tried to load Scorched Tanks, and all I got was a black screen.

It's a shame it's such a pain to emulate the Amiga. I've spent hours searching for these games, now I want to play them dammit!

I want to see why people keep requesting Amiga games!

I finally got to play an Amiga game, after downloading and uploading so many of them I used kickstart 3.1, I think.

It's not bad. I can see why so many people want the damn things now.

Did you get your games, Silverhaze?

I've been out of the office last couple of days getting some much needed sun on the tennis courts. I'll d/l the roms today.

What did you play Adidas? Any of the games I've requested are well reccomended by myself too if you need anything to play.

Much appreciated Adidas, thanks indeed.

You didn't think I was going to be defeated by Jim Power now, did you? I had to find it once Damian had pointed out my blunder. I'm uploading it right now. I still haven't given up on Sneech, I just haven't had the time to look for it.

The only one that I had to throw in the towel on was that damn BBC Micro rom.....

I played it too, it's pretty good. I like base jumpers, although it's hard with the keyboard. I should map some buttons with my Sidewinder profiler.

Yeah dont bother with the HD really unless you wanna be playing games with like 12 disks like monkey island 2 did. Anything with 3 or less isnt really necessary to do that with. Its just a whole load of hassle.

What game are you trying to play?
