Jag Emu

Sometimes Even Console Emulation Can be Deceptive

Jag Emu

Thought i'd give Project Tempest another crack today since its recently been rewritten and damn has it improved. Tempest 2000 plays like a mofo now, first proper go i've had since it came out. Dunno aboout anything else though, couldent give enough of a monkeys to download them.

You need a machine with a bit of clout for it, my 2200+ is just on the border with a bit of sound break up and some slowdown between board changes. Quite a bit more hungry then the CoJag stuff in MAME, althougth thats probably more down to the fact that Tempest 2000 actually uses the hardware rather then just streaming everything off a HD like those shitty digitised gun games do.

Runs from a command line and an ini now like MAME does, but thats hardly any problem when theres only one game actually worth playing on the system.

Yeah, I got the whole GoodJag set off IRC one day but haven't gotten around to playing them at all. I've barely played any of the NES I got around the same time. :-\

The Jaguar has five processors, which are contained in three chips. Two of the chips are proprietary designs, nicknamed "Tom" and "Jerry". The third chip is a standard Motorola 68000 used as a coprocessor. Tom and Jerry are built using an 0.5 micron silicon process. With proper programming, all five processors can run in parallel.
CPU: Tom - Graphics (32 bit RISC, 26.591 MHz, 26.591 MIPS), Object (64 bit RISC), and Blitter (64 bit RISC) processing units
PPU: Motorolla 16 bit 68000 (13.295 MHz)
APU: Jerry - Digital Signal (32 bit RISC, 26.6 MHz, 26.6 MIPS) processing unit
Total Memory: 16 mbits
Colors displayed: 16.8 million
Colors available: 24 bit
Resolution: Varies: RF, S-Video, Composite
Rendering Speed (millions pixels/sec): >850

both cdi and 3do have one emulator, both not worth mentioning .. :?

My machine is 2.4ghz and I can say that Jag emus aren?t worth running at the moment. Project Tempest is still buggy as hell. And very few games run. There?s this that looks pretty good: http://icculus.org/virtualjaguar/
