Sometimes Even Console Emulation Can be Deceptive

New meaning of "go outside and play!"

Postby KoHC on Thu Jul 17, 2003 2:40 pm

Remember when you were younger your parents always want to to "go outside and play!"?

Well, guess Nintendo feels the same way. One of their new GBA game (can't read Japanese so can't really figure out the name) actually force players to play under the sun:

It's another vampire hunting RPG game. This little RPG game comes with a small light sensor. Which will transfer "light energy" into main character's sunbeam gun. The brighter the light, the stronger the gun will be. However, excessive light will cause the gun to "overheat" and stop working, great!

What will they think up next?

Edit: Some players confirm that the game actually detects UV light only. So it's possible to play at home without get yourself sun burn. :?

Haha great for novelty value and summer time. Winter could suck though.

Another note, 2 versions of package are available. Retail version is just basic boxing but collector's edition come pack in a small coffin style box. I wonder if it's big enough to put a pokemon in there..... Sure will be a great display on my window to scare my neighbor kids.

No, the sensor is build-in on the cartridge.

So I guess theres nothing to stop people shining a light onto the sensor?

And I wonder if they considered the fact that you cant see fuck all on a GBA screen out in the daylight lol

The quick way to "charge up" your gun might be point a UV light (black light) directly on the sensor since it's the light wave it'll pick up. I doubt the screen will be clear enough under the direct sunlight. But I'm sure you'll get sunburn and sore eyes because you're under the sun for too long.

Play outside close to North Pole (Alaska or somewhere around) isn't a good idea at all. Even during "summer" the temp is still close to 0C. Plus you're still getting sunburn because the snow will reflect the sun.
