N64 emulation almost perfect?

Postby ivwshane on Sun Sep 08, 2002 1:27 am

For those that missed it, project 64 just released 1.5 final of their p64 emulator. After playing with it again I must say I am very impressed with the quality.

Now I've only tried golden eye on it but come on that was the only good game for that system anyway:p

The control was good and the emulation was right on and it played pretty much at full frames (I couldn't really tell because I also had tv running).

Go get it and see for yourself.

I thought Kart 64 was crap compaed to the original, I tend to ignore it and just take the GBA Mario Kart as being the proper sequel.

To be my usuall picky self - The emulation isnt even remotly perfect, just the effects. Proper machine level emulation of the N64 would take some serious effort and processor horsepower.

picky bastard ;)

Seemingly perfect? How's that :D

Mario Kart 64 is better for one reason (at least in my eyes): Battle mode! 4 player battles kick ass... not to mention better tracks in racing mode

I have an adaptoid, this lets me use the real pad with Windows. It even uses the rumble pack, but I need to get some new batteries.

I should get an adaptoid. Right now, I'm just using my keyboard. I might get a sidewinder.

I use a interact hammer head fx, it has dual analog sticks, dual rumble, dual triggers, six buttons on the face and two shoulder buttons, as well as a select and a start button, oh and a digital d-pad of course.

I need to get a new controller. Right now I just have a cheapo Gamepad Pro that looks just like a PS1 controller. ^^

So is that thing any good then Shane? I could do with a new controller too. I currently have a clapped out old gravis pro and some blue and black wingman pad with a d-pad so big and buttons so small its nearly impossible to use.

It's awesome and like the gamepad pro it doesn't require drivers, that is mame and pj64 will auto reconize it.

The only bad thing is that they stopped making them:(
I would love to get a hold of at least one more.

Damn. The quest for the holy PC Gamepad continues.

Where did you get your adaptoid Damian and can I use my debit card to get one instead of my credit card?

Actually on second thought I think I'll skip it. I thought that was a thing that allowed you to use a number of different pads on the PC. I'd prefer to get one that allowed me to use my PS2 pads. With analog support of course. Mario would be pretty playable with that.

Any ideas? I know there was one about a while back but I dont know about now.

I got the adaptoid and my new adaptor that can use PSX (and PS2) Dreamcast, and Saturn pads from the same source; Jandaman. He runs the VGN Store, but this other adaptor is very new and might not be there yet; if it isn't try His direct store, it is called the dream pad or soething like that ;). The adaptoid is $25 (although I got mine free :)) and the Dream one is about $30 (paid that time round).

Damn I checked out the site and the N64 PSX to PC adaptor looks very interesting although it says it probably wont work with a USB hub. I have my BB connected through one USB socket and the rest of my stuff connected through my 5 port hub.

Looks like I'm shit outta luck as I'm not running my BB through the hub, I dont want any loss of performance. Why dont they do that one with game port support?!?!?!

Because gameport is out of date unfortunately, and I think you are right about it not working on a hub; alhough you could borrow mine to try it out.

A gameport to USB converter would be very handy.

So if the port is out of date then what are they going to be putting on the back of new soundcards? Or are pads just getting ahead of themselves here?

I doubt these cards will stop using the game port any time soon since its also used as a MIDI port for connecting music devices.

I'm not really desperate enough for a USB to PSX converter to attempt running my broadband through my hub.

Maybe this is another thing for when I get a new PC.

How many USB ports do most people here have? As I already said, I have 2 on my PC. One holds my BB and the other holds a 5 port hub from which I have one of my pads, my CD burner and my Zip.

I have two USB's. I rarely use them, my Sidewinder(s) use the game port connection. The only thing I use them for is my camera, really.
