maybe your patch sucks? or your OS
or maybe it has something to do with the temporary file that's created when you run VGS?
when I run it with no temp version, it's all pixellated, but if I close it down and run it again (with a temporary version in the temp folder) it will use my vidcard's ability to smooth the pixels
patch it, run it, then go to your C:\windows\temp folder and find something that looks like TnfXs.dat
erase that then try to run your patched VGS a second time
if it starts up fine, then the temp image is what's screwing up the deal
also, check aldostools.com and see if there are better patches
