2 Questions SNES & PC

Postby Silverhaze on Tue Jul 24, 2001 5:35 am

I couldnt be bothered to make 2 posts so I thought I'd ask both questions in this one.

First, can anybody tell me where to find any SNES roms? I've been looking all over and all I can find are dead links. I'm particularly looking for Mario All Stars, Contra 3, Quack Attack (Donald duck's first game) Mario World and a few others.

The second question is for anybody that knows about old PC games. I'm looking for one called 'Claw' or maybe 'Captain Claw'. It was a cartooney platform game where you played as a pirate cat. Anyway, I checked that Underdogs site and they didnt have it and was wondering if anybody knew about any other sites?

Thats it! Cheers!

I tried snesarena and for some reason my account wont activate so I tried edgeemu and all the links to the games I wanted were dead. Then I tried cherry and the site was down.

Not having much luck here really but I have managed to get some games from emuchina.

At home I only have a 56k. I do most of my downloading at work but our firewall doesnt allow most peer to peer file transfers if thats what you had in mind unfortuneately.

Oh yeah, and I just remembered that the Donald Duck game was on the Mega Drive. Anybody remember it? I think it was called Quack Attack and you fired plungers. On the first level you had to climb to the top of some buildings, slide down a zip line and some other stuff I cant remember. There was a ghost house level in there too somewhere. And I think a little red plane too.

Anybody had any news on Claw or Death Rally for the PC?

I remember Quackattack.

There was a stage (set in a cave or mines)
wiht a elevator (lift) that went very fast up or odwn.I remember you could jump out of it,creating loads of intertia!

It was like playing a level of Sonic, the scrolling was incredably fast.

I dont remember that bit but it could well have been in there.

I'm not entirely sure it was Quack Attack. It was a very early DD game for the genesis. Thats all I remember, apart from some bits of the game.

Cheers for Death Rally Ad, that game kicks ass!! Or at least it did the last time I played the demo. About 6-7 years ago lol

Keep an eye out for CC too though, its about the same age as Death Rally I think. I've been looking everywhere for it but I cant look at warez sites at work cos of the damn porno popups.

Right, I just got round to downloading death rally at home and the site its on made me think. Adidas, where the HELL do you find these weird undercover sites?!? I always get nothing but crap sites full of dead links and porn.

I'm pretty sure I saw Captain Claw on a warez site somewhere, unfortunately I don't know where that was!

God dammit why does nothing go right first time???

I loaded DR and as I expected, the sound didnt work. I fiddled with the IRQ settings and stuff and got it running with sound but when I entered a race all I got was a black screen. I could hear everything going on though which was lovely!

I don't know. I was trying to play some games that I downloaded at The Underdogs last week and none of them wanted to work right. I didn't have any sound problems, at least.

I need to get my hands on a cheap Pentium 100 or something with just dos on it to play old games on!

I can play The Incredible Machine, though. Good thing too! That is one of the few older PC games that I used to play.

That is so damn true. I know that Doom 2 sounded better back then. I talked to one guy who has XP beta who reckons that it plays DOS games. I would love to believe him but somehow I don't. If it did I would be a very happy puppy. And yes I know both versions of XP were meant to move towards the new NT code.

I don't have any problems with my SBlive 16 emulation, it usually just gives some type of error when trying to play a dos game. The other day I tried one and it gave a run-time error. Of course, that could be sound card related too, but who knows?

There is a way to play nearly all dos games in windows, just takes a bit of setting up, i play 99% of all my dos games in windows. It's not hard just requires a few steps and some games need a bit of fiddling with memory settings to work right. I haven't had to setup my dos stuff in ages. i'm pretty sure you don't need to do this for sound card setup progs, just run them in fullscreen.
Ok lets begin.
Install software then right click on the main start file usually .exe not .bat and create a shortcut (doesn't need to be on the desktop)
Now right click it, click on properties.Click on the program tab.
check the close on exit box and make sure it it set on maximised in the run section. now click on advanced button.
check the prevent dos progs detecting windows box, and uncheck the other 2 boxes then OK.
Go into the Misc tab, uncheck allow screen saver and uncheck a couple windows shortcut keys usually Alt-space,Alt-enter maybe Alt-tab now goto the screen tab.
Make sure its running in fullscreen, goto memory tab. Heres the fiddly bit some games may need tweaking on the memory amounts and types(ie EMS, XMS) first check the protected memory box this is needed for all games. click on the OK button and try game, If not working then try changing amounts in initial memory and EMS/XMS memory. You may need to run the sound card setup before running the prog(just pick the appropriate numbers for IRQ and so on - check in system properties in the control panel of windows if you don't know which ones or pick either 5or7 for IRQ and address 220 or just keep trying mumbers until it works ). Note dos sound drivers should not be required as it is now running in windows enviroment. Good Luck and GAME ON!! just make a post if your running into probs and i'll try to fix it.

As i said before i run 99% of my dos games Over 50+ games and only 1-2 do not run due to high intially conventional memory requirements (600k+).Formula GP is one of them.

Your little process SUCKS!!! It did NOTHING!!

I deplore your DOS game working skills you non DOS game worker you!!!

LOL Nah actually it did work a bit better but for some reason my PC just doesnt get on well with DOS. Its slows down and speeds up at random and stutters a lot too. Its not a lack of power but something in the configuration deep in there. If anybody else has this problem or knows anything about it can they let me know???
