It looks like I'm on a quest to collect every game out there. After completing 99% of the snes games I figured I'd give mame games a try. Now I know there are plenty of sites that are reliable and have mame games but I'm kind of interested in like a one time download or even using snail mail. So my question is; Does anyone have most or all the mame roms? And if you do would you like to trade or something (whether by mail or ftp's and etc.)?

I'm estimating that there are well over 2.5-3GB worth of games and it more likely over 4GB with all neo-geo games (which I have) and all the new cps2 games.

Mr Jewboy has the complete set but he lives in Oz so it would probably be pretty tricky. Plus I think it spans 6 CDs or something like that. Ftp would take a lifetime as he has a 56k

Its a shame that there isnt a program that could sit there why you were at work downloading the roms from dk in alphabetical order.

Currently mame roms only = 3.28 gig (3102 roms) the last beta broke into 6 cd's.Plus there is 142 meg of unmamed cps2 Games(except the 4 that haven't been dumped yet)
I'd like to help but the last time i tried to send 2 cd's across Oz they never showed up.
If i had a faster connection i'd give people here access to my PC.

A rather insignificant sun drenched tiny island surrounded by the Tasman, Timor and Arafura Seas and the Indian and Pacific Oceans and colonised by British convicts.
Otherwise known as Australia. Cant understand why anybody would want to visit it

Where are you from ivw? Not that I'm going to get involved in this as I only have 730 working roms for mame.

Shane, it can be a bit tricky with that dodgy Aussy post. Thats why I'm taking an arcade machine component out there with me when I go. Cant trust the post as things get tampered with. I've tried once before and found that the present I sent never made it all the way.

Ok, well ivwshane if you do want to download MAME ROMs en mass but find it difficult with MAME.dk's loading time, you might want to try Mameworld's ROMs. These are actually the same as MAME.dk's and use their system, but all of the details/pictures are cut out and getting ROMs onto a download manager is a hell of a lot faster.

Ok, I think I've found an even faster way.

If you goto http://www.dgroms.com you will see that they have 621 pages of all MAME ROMs. You only have to accept the agreement once, not every time you wish to download a ROM. When you click on a game name it takes 4-5 seconds for it to go through to your download manager, or 2 seconds if you immediately press stop once the screen comes up as it is loading a fastcounter (you might need to do this anyway as sometimes fastcounter is overloaded, and can take ages to load).

Using this method, and if you do 100 or so ROMs at a time when you are not using the computer you might be able to complete your collection in a surprisingly short amount of time.

Remember, unlike MAME.dk (and therefore mameworld) DGROMs has a static address for each ROM which means that it can be resumed at any time. MAME.dk rather annoyingly throws up a dynamic link to the actual ROM so that while it might be resumable 5-10 minutes later, 10-20 minutes later it will probably not be.

Another point is that DG has lost many of it's user base since DK came back and it has a 4.6 MB a second transfer rate (used to be 2 until June).

Sweet!! Dg is alot faster! So far the longest it took for a save dialogue box to appear has been 2 seconds! I'm guessing this will take me a week and a half instead of the two and a half weeks I was planning.

Cool I might give that a go too. I fell foul of the dk dynamic links recently while downloading a 20mb rom. When I looked at it the thing said resume supported. When I clicked on pause the bastard had just flicked back to No resume without me noticing. Dagnammit! I was at 60% too!

Then I realised that I may aswell just download it at work and burn it. Took me 5 minutes. Arrrrgh I want broadband at home!!

I just finished downloading #-b from mameworld and t-z at dg for a total of 816 games which equals 840MB so I'm about 40% done. Tomorrow will suck because I'll be downloading the c's and the s's for a combined total of 690 games most of those will be cps2 games so they will be huge.

Glad to hear you're making such swift progress. Yesterday on the faster computer I moved all of my CPS2 games into MAME so that it has the majority of them now. I am going to tell my CPS2 specific emulators to point towards MAME's ROMs directory instead of the other way round as for some reason MAME32 won't let me add another directory.

Heres the deal. I just got an 80 gig drive and i fully intend to have full mame and snes sets on there soon as i get my new mobo and chip (current board can't use a drive that big). I'll basically mirror mame.dk and i'll be able to get all the new/changed roms soon as they are anounced thanks to the joys of usenet. Not going to bither with a website but it will be accessible via ftp if you ask. Now i just have to get my board, ram (1gig thanks , and chip (1.4 GHz t-bird

ortunately i can get all the new roms when they are flooded on alt.binaries.emulators.arcade just before the release of the newest mame. Also, i get ~350 KBps off usenet so even if it were a gig of new roms it would only take about an hour

The problem is that its still going to be at least a month before the enw comp is up and running.

How much did you pay for your 80 gig hard drive, Sabin? I'm just curious because I think I paid about 350$ for mine a year ago.
