StarROMs

Feeling guilty about downloading all of those MAME ROMs that you don't legally own? Most people could care less.

But if you do care, fully liscensed ROMs are available at StarROMs.

Is this a first step towards legitimizing emulation, or is it just some greedy people exploiting the work of the dumpers and emulator writers? The prices are still a little high for my tastes.
Actually, confusing cyborgs and robots is a common mistake

If they are legit and passing the money on like they claim, theres no way i'd give those bloodsucking French bastards at Infogrammes money for work done by the real Atari.

Eh.... First of all, Atari arcade division belongs to Midway, not Infogrames. Infogrames bought Atari's console and computer division while Midway bought the arcade division.

Second, since Midway West (Atari Arcade) closed down on Feb 7th. There's no information on who holds the copyright for Atari arcade games. So unless Midway bought not only Atari arcade but also all Atari arcade game copyrights, there is no one holding the copyright for old Atari arcade games now.

Third, the site only stated "A large percentage of the proceeds collected by StarROMs are paid to the owners of the games." That doesn't mean the money will go to "The creators of the games".

So basically another illegal emulation site try to rip people off.

Atari Corp and its sucessive owners (JTS, Hasbro and Infogrammes) has the rights to the pre-split games and several they developed themselves afterwards.

Atari Games and its subsequent owner (Midway) holds the rights to all the games they produced themselves.

Since the vast majority of Atari's best games were produced pre-split or by Atari Corp, Infogrammes would be getting the biggest slice of my money if I was stupid enough to buy into this scam.
