Today was a sad day

I have to download 137MB of GBA roms just to play Sword Of Mana.

Damn it, the Internet is chaging.... or am I just getting more older, whiter and lazier?

why did you have to download so much.... ?

RAR'd?

There are three different ROMs on usenet named Sword of Mana, all for GBA

If you still need it let me know.

Luckily, I just figured how to get ABC to download selected files so downloading was okay. I was more pissed of that I had to use BT to get a rom and all the old emu links are dying :(

What is usenet?

Isnt newsnet a newsgroup or something?! Your ISP has to provide newgroup access and you have to have some software to use it or something. I never have.

On a side note Ive finally managed to get BT to behave itself. Ive set the downloading PC as a DMZ with just the windows firewall running and also ran that patch to open up the number of connections from 10 to 50 and its worked a treat.

I got the kingdom of heaven dvd yesterday 3.something gig and the download never dropped below 95kb. Sat on 120kb most of the time.

At bloody last!! It took me a week to the Xmen Legends 2 and its shit anyway.

Could you explain this in more detail? My speeds should be much higher with the amount of seeds for each torrent (E.g Metal Gear Solid 2 PC DVD has 50 seeds, 525 peers but d/ls at 10-25kbps).

For you Zep....certainly! ;)

Ok before when I using Bit Tornado or Bit Comet the torrent would say )on the website) 50 seeds and 200 leechers. When I connected to it I would usually get about 10-20 seeds at best. Also I didnt seem to be downloading from any of them, just the other leechers.
By the time the torrent got near the end there were so few other leechers that had what I needed that it would slow down to literally 1-5kb

Even at the best of times I was getting about 30kb but this would go up and down quite a lot.

Then Damian pointed me in the direction of a little fix that opens the number of connections XP can handle from 10 up to 50. Whether or not this made much difference I dont know and I still cant use Bit Comet on my new PC because it causes it to reset itself. Saying that though, the new nForce drivers 6.66 cause it to reset after 3 mins of desktop too. Im probably gonna have to send it back.

Anyway, getting off that tangent. I then went into my router settings and tried to open the ports that Bit Tornado uses 10000-60000 or something like that. The stupid fucktard interface wont let me change any settings for some reason so I had to go into the DMZ settings and enter the IP of that PC in there to totally remove it from the router firewall protection.
I just use the plain old XP Firewall now and nothing else.

As soon as I set it as a DMZ my light went green in Tornado and the number of seeds shot up, as did the leechers. At the same time my download speed went from 10 to 110kb.

okay, my machine is just a stand alone so no router to configure there. I tried downloading with just the Windows Firewall but it didn't boost my speeds. I seem to be getting the same problem you had where it connects to the peers and not the seeds, even though the torrent has a green light of okayfulness. Woe is me, to the Google I shall go for answers....

Try and get on IRC this evening Zep unless DAmian reads this post and remembers the name of the little fix for windows.

Seems weird that this is happening to you though... Mine only did it becuase I couldnt connect to any seeds.

I cant handle being able to download from HTTP at 250kb and then get on BT and only get 10kb. It pisses me off royally!!

I started a download of Family Guy complete DVD Rips season 1,2,3,4 last night at 11 before I went to bed. When I got up this morning, 2.5 of the 7gig had downloaded. Im happy with that speed.

Have you tried only lining that one thing up? I cant connect to too many, even when Im not even downloading a file, it just says its connected to all the peers but paused it interferes with my other downloads. I tend to only ever download one thing at a time.

Have you checked the advanced properties to see who is uploading.

Maybe we should work out some kind of a test. I would reccomend getting say Bit Tornado (I know its not great but for test purposes only) and then download exactly the same file as me or another member of the board. Then we can do a direct comparison. You should even be able to see my IP on the advanced list and see the kind of speed Im getting compared to you.

Its worth a try. I'll try and get onto Damian about that little fix too....

Slaaaaaag! Ok Ive found it.

Description of the possible problem:
http://blog.davidkaspar.com/archives/2005/04/windows_xp_sp2_and_event_id_4226.php

Hopeful fix for the problem:

Good luck Zep, I hope this works. You dont have any other firewall software do you? Heres a good test, I got Kingdom of Longassfilm err Heaven on The Pirate Bay. Its the DVD rip with norwegian subtitles and I got it in 1 day pretty much. Try that torrent on its own with Bit Tornado after you do the fix as that should be a healthy torrent.

Its me, I have the golden touch you see LOL

Also, Im the kiss of death for online purchasing as nothing to date that Ive bought online as met with my satisfaction, oh...apart from my DVD burner.

First thing I got was a DVD player, it was fucked and had to be sent back. They then returned it to the wrong address and I had to go through a load of shit to get the damn thing and the audio outputs still didnt work right.
Next thing was the DVD Burner which was ok but then I got a DVD from Amazon which got lost in the post or something and I had to re-request it. All in all took about 2 months to get it from time of purchase.

Now the PC. I fucking give up!!
