This site is messed up --or-- I like to complain

This board is so chunky! What's the story here? Things move so slowly, clicking a link takes forever to load up, the page loads chunky...

...what can I do to speed it up? It's seriously pissing me off!

but not pissing me off enough to pay a few hundred for a new computer, so if that's the answer, just say something else, like how much I rule or where to find some drugs that'll slow me down so much this site seems to go fast.

We have been talking recently about giving the site a facelift in an attempt to lure more people in but its been hella quiet around here recently.

On the other hand, you probably want to get rid of the ROM board, or move it to the "secret" area unless maybe you're based in an area where ROMs aren't actively bitched about by companies...

If the popularity suddenly skyrocketed, that would lead to more of everything, including haters, narcs, and dumbasses. The real problem being narcs. It would blow if the site suddenly became wicked popular and then started getting litigious bullshit from Data East or Infogrames.

Yeah thats true although we dont host any roms on the site. The roms bit is more for people having problems with them or requesting info about sites that do hold them.

Uber popular would certainly suck but only having about 6 active members sucks too.

The speed does get a little slow at times, though I'm not sure why. Usually it's still pretty decent. The board software is due to be updated: phpbb3 is on the horizon (there's finally a beta version)

The person who we wanted to do some design work for us just isn't going to do it, so we've got to find someone else to do it.

I have no idea what kind of content to put here to attract people anymore; that's going to have to be discussed further.

The news script I installed pisses me off because it's ugly, but at least it works now.

umm, what else was there. Oh yeah, the ROM boards. Since this began as an emulation site and technically still is we wanted to keep the ROM discussions out in the open... well lack of discussions.

Well yeah, the one ROM board isn't bad, but the one about "best rom sites" I mean are you trying to piss off Nintendo? That's the one I think should go in the hidden area.

I think you should at least put up a front of officially "not supporting the eyepatch" even if you allow rombegging.

Just looking out for the place, what with those cease and desist orders, I'm sure all they have to do is find your server and shut it down, right?

I'm sure you could draw more users with porn! everyone likes that, but I don't think it's conducive to talking about videogames and emulation. Personally I don't know how to draw a crowd without doing illegal stuff so I'm no good with that. I can flaunt the site off to other forums without being too blatant about it, but other than that, if I had a million dollar idea, I'd be busy investing my million dollars...

Im a member of 3dgpu.com forums and they have no shortage of members. New people come along all the time asking how to set up this and fix that.

Because the people there are so friendly and helpful (if a little reserved in some cases) people often stick around.
There is some censorship and admin tinkering but once you establish yourself a bit more you can bend the rules
