DS Lite Shipment For UK Stolen

Postby Silverhaze on Mon Jun 19, 2006 3:51 pm

With just days to go before the DS Lite launches in Europe, Nintendo has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that a shipment of units bound for the UK has been stolen.

Rumours of the theft began to emerge last week, with some reports claiming that the shipment was worth GBP 1.26 million (EURO 1.84 million).

Well I only have one thing to say about this. CUNT.

If I dont get my Lite Im going to be most upset. But think about it, lets do some basic maths. Using drugs as an example they work out street value by taking it down to the smallest weight for distribution. Say they had a raid and scored themselves 10kg of weed. THey would take that all the way down to 8th of an ounce weight, work out the cost and then there you have your street value.

10kg of weed
3.5g in an 8th
£15 per 8th

That leaves you with a street value of roughly - £42k to £43k

Ok so.....DS's with a street value of £1200000
Average street value per DS is £100.
Sweet christ on a bike thats about 12,000 Nintendo DS units.

Who the fuck can shift 12,000 DS's while managing to keep a low profile and if they find this motherfucker, do I get my DS Lite at a discount because technically its second hand? ;)

I think that the thief would wait for the DS Lite to hit the stores and then start selling (by October-December).

They could probably track the stolen DS' through the serial numbers.

Yeah they could do that so selling to any retailers would be out of the question. I bet the same people that try and sell you pirate DVDs will be selling these things too ;)

Either that or keep an eye on Computer Fair events.

Im pissed off. They better have my DS Lite in Game when I go on Friday.

Yes Zep it does.

I bought a WiFi USB adaptor so I dont need a wireless router to get the thing online. It works fine.

Were is right, theres no web browsing yet but Opera DS is on the way and the TV Tuner cart will be out soon too.

Browsing the web on a small screen wont be the same really but it being a touch screen makes things interesting.

Im getting a DS Lite on Friday when they come out.

If you want to play games against people it all has to be done through friend codes rather than logging into lobbies but with a site like PCB it shouldnt be hard to arrange something.

You thinking of taking the DS plunge then Zeporama?

Heh yeah I suppose theres advantages to working where I do. We all get a laptop each and mine is due an upgrade soon. I never bloody use it at home anyway unless I choose to work from home that is.

I wouldnt bother with a PSP. I find the DS much more satisfying with the stylus it just feels like a better piece of kit than the PSP. As for the media side of things....well even the PSP is just too small for watching stuff on so thats not even a factor for me.
