WoW Negatively Impacting Gaming

Postby Silverhaze on Tue Feb 21, 2006 1:24 pm

There are gamers all around the world that once bought a swathe of games every year but now they buy very few if any. Why? Because they are playing World of Warcraft (WoW). Sure there maybe some other attracive titles that hit the shelves occasionally but who’s got the time to play them. Why play other games when you could be ‘raiding’ with your mates or leveling that ‘alt’.

I found this very interesting because during my time with WoW for most of last year I don’t recall ever buying any other PC game or playing one except for one I already had to quench my FPS thirst at times. I felt that buying a game during that time wasn’t a good investment because WoW demanded too much time to be able to spend any on another game. You can read more at BigKid.com.au

Seems to make sense. Dont you love an industry that strives to bring you a great product and then complains because you arent playing anything else? Quality.

never played it, not interested. Leveling up characters gets boring after a while.

My Brother plays this game everyday for at least 8 hours (on weekends were looking at 13 to 16)... at first we joked about it, but now I'm not really sure what to do... and he hasn't played any other game since he got it (summer last year)... he's sick!

He'll grow out of it eventually. I got a bit like that with Ragnarok for a while.

Same here.

I've found that allot of people who are playing this game really aren't gamers and they are not computer users either.

It's kind of the same as when the cruis'n games were popular. They were altra popular, not because hardcore gamers like it but because your average joe liked it.

So what's so appealing about this game? Is basically a 3d world of myspace?

I must admit that the game does appeal to me. I really like RPGs and the idea of playing one multiplayer in a growing "world" sounds cool. What I do stupid is the subscription: after paying £30-40 for a game, I don't expect to pay the same thing for the same game every month.

Damn it maybe I'm just saying that 'cause I'm a poor ass musican.
God gave me everything I want!
