That's pretty slick looking Zep, unfortunately it's a Sony product :P

As for the podcasts, I'm not surprised. I can picture my electronic music professor podcasting lessons. He plays snippets of music as examples in class of his ipod

He also has MAME on the desktop of his notebook PC :)

Sounds like an ok guy.

Hey Zep, I was looking at those Sony MP3 players but was put off by the screen on them. It looked much flashier in the adverts and I was quite dissapointed when I saw it for real. Im still in the Creative Zen camp at the moment even though I dont own one. If I had the money thats the way I would go.

Whats it like? How many formats can it play?

It's a very sleek design with very very good sound quality. It plays mp3s, wma, and some other formats. You can update the Firmware on it very easily and this allows for other formats to play as well. I'm sure there will be custom hacks for it too. It's very easy to use also.

So far I have only a couple problems with it. Maybe I'm going a bit deaf in my old age, but it seems to me that it plays mp3s quite quietly. This is only a minor problem however because there is software areound which can enhance the quality of mp3s before you transfer them to the device.

The second, but very big problem with it is the software that comes bundled with it called "Sony Connect". To put it short, it simply doesn't work. Even if you do manage to get it working after a few re boots, it's shit. Sony are apparantly fixing all the bugs and in the mean time I have to use "Sony SonicStage" which is a bit slow, but it works okay.

I very nearly bought the Zen over this one, but I am still very happy with it as a player and can reccomend it.

Zep, that's my exact problem with sony portable players: shitty proprietary software.

Is it so bad to plug it in and use it as if it were removable storage?

When I plug in my Zen Nano my PC sees a 1 GB removable drive. I drag stuff onto it and I'm done.
