FADING pop star Michael Jackson has suffered the embarrassment of accepting a non-existent award.
In front of a television audience of millions, Wacko took to the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards after he thought he had been declared Artist of the Millennium.
The confusion arose when Britney Spears invited him on stage to receive a cake marking his 44th birthday.
The 20-year-old singer said, for her, Jackson was the artist of the millennium.
She then presented him with the cake and a statuette in the shape of a treble clef.
Jackson took her words to mean he actually was being honoured as the greatest singer of the past 1000 years.
