George Lucas and the Third Reich

In Star Wars George Lucas has a lot of references to the Third Reich. On the Empire side it?s more cryptic and debatable, while on the Rebel side it?s obvious and even in some cases admitted.

Han Solo's pistol is modeled after a "Broomhandle" Mauser pistol. It's basically the same but with a few added things.

The final medal scene in "A New Hope parallels" shot-for-shot a sequence in the Nazi film "Triumph Des Willens" (1934). http://us.imdb.com/Title?0025913

In the Empire Strikes Back, one of the bounty hunters had an MG-42 that was completely un-converted!! It just had the bipod striped off. Sorry I wasn't able to find a pic (tho I didn?t try very hard)

Also, the Empire has some Nazi imagery (even tho Lucas denies it). The first hint should be the stormtroopers. The Empire never really had any Aliens or anything working for it (although the Rebellion didn?t have but a few in ?Return of the Jedi? and they remained pretty much uniform). All the Imperial commanders were basically evil White guys. And Palpatine in ?The Phantom Menace? was elected higher CHANCELLOR (and as we know he becomes the "evil Emperor").

Also note that the Empire Theme by John Williams is eerily similar to the "Nazi Theme" he wrote for "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" 12 years later.
