Holy Feck, Zinc is out

Postby RabidYak on Sun Mar 24, 2002 4:39 pm

Almost fell off my chair when I strolled over to RG today and saw this on todays news listing, didnt think it was going to be out for quite a while yet.

Anyway for those that dont know, Zinc is the son-of-impact-and-s11emu emulator by R.Belmont and Co. that does all the stuff from the 2 afformentioned emus and then some.

Heres the info -

"zinc 0.5: Zinc 0.5 has been released! This is a 3D arcade emulator for Windows and Linux which replaces the old Impact and S11emu emulators and runs all of their games. New since the S11emu preview release and the final Impact:

Music in Psychic Force

Added Magical Date EX, Sonic Wings Limited, and Beastorizer (bootleg). Magical Date EX and Sonic Wings have full sound, Beastorizer is missing music due to a bad dump.

Sound effects should be improved (not fixed) in the SFEX games.

Now requires the real ZN-1 bios in a file called "firmware.zip". See the ROM descriptions included in Zinc´s readme for more info.

Fixed graphics glitches in Xevious 3D/G.

Improved graphics in Tekken and Tekken 2 (but not 100% correct)

Faster renderers courtesy Pete Bernert.

Brand new R3000 dynamic recompiler with CPU-specific optimizations and tunable performance parameters.

Block button in Soul Edge assigned to ´G´.

WARNING: Sonic Wings Limited may lock up your entire system if you let it go into attract mode after the title appears. To avoid this, insert coins and start a game immediately. Once you are in game there are no hazards and it plays great.

Let the gaming commence!

I'm already trying out tekken 1&2 and soul edge. Tekken 2 doesn't work at all and in tekken 1 the background is messed up. I don't get any sound though. And soul edge works very well.

I wonder where one might get firmware.zip? ABEM, perhaps?

Just a few comments on some of the games

Sonic Wings Limited
Same thing as the other Sonic Wings games. Didnt play it long enough to get a full gander, but I should imagine it lacks any of slowdowns of its NG relatives.

Strider 2
Slight change of pace and style to the original, but its still the same sort of gameplay and its a pretty good game. A bit too easy for my likeing though.

Kikaioh
I got this off ABEM not knowing what it was and was nicely suprised when it turned out to be a kick-ass giant robot game rather then some shoddy Jap quiz/puzzle/porno game. Think of a 3D version of Cyberbots, but allot more fun.

I've only tried Soul Edge, SFEXP2, and Rival Schools.

They all run too slow on my system to be considered worth playing.
