CNN.com: Emulator programs add arcade flavor to PCs

There may be some truth to the old saying "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." But you have to copy carefully when it comes to the world of video game emulating.

If you want a reasonably priced arcade-type system for your home, emulator programs are a fun way to bring back old-school games -- so long as you do it legally.

Download an emulator, couple it with a retro game, and you're good to go. You can keep the setup as is or even turn it into a full-scale arcade game.

I get scared everytime I see some mainstream media piece on emulation. I really don't want the scene to be a warez spinoff.

I have to admit feeling the same way whenever I read stuff like this. I even saw a small half page bit in a free newspaper we get in train stations over here.

I saw an article on Bit Torrent too on the BBC website I think. Its things like this that ruin it for everybody.

A similar situation on a far smaller scale was when I used to download stuff at work, in the early days of Napster. At first it was just me, then I told a mate who broadcasted it across the entire building and before I knew it, so many people had Napster on their PCs that they blocked the ports and blew it for everybody.

Well, kinda similar on a small scale I suppose :D

i hate seeing emulation (and things like BT) on the mainstream. us hardcore net users built these things on a foundation of lonelyness, geekness and the desire for more porn. why the hell should GEN PUBLIC know about our antics. keep emulation to the hardcore only i say!
God gave me everything I want!
