Mame updates?

Postby ivwshane on Tue Mar 30, 2004 3:58 am

Ok this may be a stupid question but it's been bugging me.

When R. Belmont reports an update to mame, ie .80u2, does that mean it's the same as a regular release, ie .81 in the sense that there are new roms supported or that some roms need to be updated?

Basically I just want to know if I need to be looking for new roms for the update.

U releases are interim test builds between the regular releases with stuff that is submitted inbetween, sort of like the old beta system but more frequent and with a different purpose. So yes, u releases have new stuff in them and you can either update as you go along or wait the next full regular release and do it all in one go. Its Haze that puts MAME releases together at the moment, not Belmont.

latest U release is referred to as R.Belmont release because most of the stuff in it is contributed from him - but as RabidYak pointed out it's haze that releases the diff's.

I wouldn't bother getting the roms until each full release, but that's just me.
Cheers,

Release.
