Sweet New MAME feature

Postby RabidYak on Sat Aug 18, 2001 7:10 am

Just fired up the new MAME32, and I noticed a helluva sweet new feature in Space Invaders -

Image

The picture dosent show it that well, but the backgound now has a greeny/reddy tint where the coloured celophane was stuck on the orginal machines to fake the effect of colour.

Its not really anything major, its just little stuff like this that makes it all the more authentic.

Nice new feature. Looks to me like you have 50% scanlines there. I generally put on 75% for older games as the small pixels look silly smooth...might make it a default option but those CPS2 games seem to need it. Difficult decision.

I never use scanlines at all myself. Just personal taste I guess.

Naaa, thats full scanlines.

I havent really bothered looking at the additional effects that were added recently, im just so damn used to the standard scanlines option it never seemed to grab me.

Anyway, bigger scanlines give the effect of cheap-shit arcade moniters which are pretty much the only type ive come across in allot of the dives ive looked in recently.

At least you have some dives to look in Yak. LOL

There is nothing round where I live. Just Namco world near the London Eye and Sega world in the Trocadero if it still exists.

Namco world rules but its not got a standard entance fee like sega world had and the minimum game price is £1 a credit! Take a £50 note with you at least as for the bigger games you will be looking at as much as £4 a shot!!!

Holy mother!! I got to get me one of those things.

Every arcade place has gone out of business where I live. The closest place to me is about 40 miles away .

Unfortunatly there aint none near me, I just make a point of looking in arcades if im anywhere near some.

Holy fuck, £1 a credit? Id want to play a gold-plated cabinet with strippers dancing around it for that sort of money.

Do they have one of those massive Galaxian 3 cubicles?

I live in Crystal Palace JC if you know where that is. SE20

Next time I'm in london I'm gonna check that place out! Cheers for the tip.

Hey Yak, they had one of those things in the Troc before it turned into sega world. I had a go with a bunch of mates and it ruled. One of those games where you never get anywhere though its just good for the 10 minutes you manage to get out of it.

LIke Virtua Racer in a way. Where you play until your credit runs out and then thats it.
