MAME WIP time again, more interesting stuff-

- Galibert reports progress on sys16 re-write but puts a final date at 2006 (LOL)

- Nicola Salmorias on a roll with decryption, the original Popeye set is finally done (dont interest me, but thats been a helluva long standing issue)

- And the afformentioned Slapstic fix for Pit Fighter and Rampart.

There are some excellent pics of Thunderblade and Power Drift with the sys16 report, the new sys16 driver is gonna kick-ass. Gotta give the guy credit, its gotta be some serious work re-writing drivers that cover 6 different boards and god knows how many games.

Hopefully The Guru's big suprises are equally as good as what the MAME WIP page has been dishing out recently.

Ah yes, they have indeed done well. Just curious as to when you reckon Beta17 might come out based on your experience with periods between beta releases. I an not sure when 16 came out, funnily enough it doesn't tell when it was officially released on mame.net. 15 was released on 24th May I believe.

Ok, just realised that it might be listed after all.

2nd July 2001: MAME 0.37b16 "Blitter effects" released! I686 binaries available.

When I first read that it looked like a special version of 16 but I now think this might just be the nickname for it. Damn, I thought it had been out longer than that.

Betas are usually about 3-6 weeks apart but 17 might be a while, apparently theres alot of code cleaning and tidying going on at the moment.

All MAME releases have some sort of title or nickname based on whats new in it (eg. 15 was "conquring windows").

I would guess three weeks maximum for the next release.

Then again it could come out tomorrow :P
