Methinks its time to start getting some dosh together for a new mobo and CPU. Ridge Racer will probably drag an upgrade out of me like MK2, Alien 3 and PinMAME eventually did last time round.

Hmm yeah I found this out last night, but did not chump up. Turns out Prop Cycle is the only one working so far, although Alpine Racer probably will too, and they are Super System 22, not System22 although naturally I am sure this could be done also.

Also Sixtoe seems to think Ridge Racer is a bad dump missing many ROMs, but this is not confirmed; plus I think Prop Cycle and Alpine Racer may be the only Super Sys22 games dumped thus far (could be wrong though).

And get this, the driver is using HLE for quite a bit of the 3D rendering! As I am sure you know this sort of seriously plays off kilter to the usual "accuracy or nothing" MAME generally pursues. This factor alone means that this driver is in danger of not being included with MAME at all.

What's the rom size on this? If mame starts adding too many "big" games I'm going to have to get a hard drive just for mame!

Super 22 is pretty much just the standard Sys22 with a quicker processor and a rocket up its arse, theres no reason why one can be done and the other can't.

As far as Super 22 games go, Tokyo Wars is where its at. Gotta love Battlezone with 1995 poly graphics.

It might not, some parts of the Atari Poly and the prelim Sys21 drivers are HLEd. In these sorts of cases there isnt really any other choice, some of the chips may be impossible to emulate properly due to near-undumpable internal code.

Probably not that big actually (relatively speaking), most of it would just be geomotry code and textures. Were not talking about a archaic 2D system that uses rediculusly large amounts of badly stored graphics data to compensate for its dinosaur-like architecture here.

Those have to be bad dumps, the music alone would be bigger than those files ane the textures are bigger than that as well.

Hmm I don't know about that. 3D meshs are very small; and remember the PSX version all fit in RAM except for music (only 1 track, not many cars). If so, and assuming the music is just simple FM synth (pulling all this crap off IRC ;)) is might just maybe be good :).

Wow, that's not bad. Well I can't wait (especially for lucky and wild! I'll have to build a cabinet just for that:p).

Id put away your tools for now. Lucky and Wild, Final Lap and Suzuka all run on an evil System 2 derivitive that has graphics arcitecture that would make Konomi piss thier pants.

ok, I just got the Ridge Racer 2 ROM and the new Sys22 emu that claims to be real...

Unfortunately I need to rename all the ROMs to get it to work and I don't have the time or patience to do it right now.

I will upload the emu and Ridge Racer 2 right now to Ivwshane and let you guys sort it out :D

Ok, here is the same ROM but with correct ROM names so it should work but with CRC errors of course.

http://emu.online.tj.cn/emu_roms/s22/rrs1.zip

Hopefully the correct dump will appear this weekend sometime.

Here is the emulator, it has been confirmed by many people and by screenshots that it works perfectly with sound; except the ROM is not good so there are graphical glitches.

Well I'll be damned!

It's real, has sound, and it's fast!

How does full speed on a p3 700 sound?

Well I've played it, and I am happy to report it is in excellent standing for a first release. Brilliant sound quality, full speed easily (MAME sux); AND joypad support.

Looks like the first post in this thread was true, Ridge Racer is mine indeed!

The GFX are a bit muddled as we need the ROM they have (General consensus is that they dumped it themselves), and the controls when turning are strange as they go straight from upper left to lower right.

All I can say, is go have a play! If you would like to see a screenshot load up the frontpage and check news.

Great, time to dust-off my old MS force feedback weel. :P
Finally some decent release for a long time. CPS2shock does nothing recently (what is he waiting for? More donations?).

i don't get exactly how you'd even play Lucky & Wild on a pc. it would be pretty annoying to control

Very nice DM!

This emu reminds me of the early days of impactemu, which was also pretty damn good for a first release.

On a side note:

I assume DM that you are giving this link out to everyone which would explain the slowness of the boards, correct?
